NewsCap: iOS 11.0.3 update, a Razer smartphone, & more

In this week’s news roundup, we bring you news of the first water-proof Kindle ever, Kindle goes water-proof, iOS 11.0.3 update, Airtel india’s new smartphone initiative, and more.

iOS 11.0.3 update is rolling out

Apple has released the iOS 11.0.3 update for iPhone and iPad. The update is only about 280 MB large and provides bug fixes for issues with audio and haptic feedback on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and touch input responsiveness on iPhone 6s.

Finally, a Kindle that can swim

Amazon’s second-generation Kindle Oasis is water-proof. The Kindle Oasis 2 also has a big display and very slim profile. Now you can take your Kindle to the swimming pool without fear of getting your pages soggy.

Airtel India Launches Affordable 4G smartphone Initiative

If you have been waiting for an Airtel 4G feature phone in India, well it hasn’t arrived yet – if it ever does. What Airtel india has done in its face-off with reliance Jio is partner with a smartphone manufacturer, Karbonn to offer the Karbonn A40 Indian at an ‘effective price’ of Rs. 1,399.

The Karbonn currently costs Rs. 3,499 in the market, so the Airtel price is a good deal. However, the JioPhone against which it competes has an effective price of zero. Not much of a competition yet.

Want A Razer Smartphone

In January this year, Razer acquired smartphone brand, Nextbit. Of course, everyone has been expecting a Razer smartphone ever since. It looks like that is about to happen. The company has tweeted a teaser:

That looks like a smartphone in the dud’es hands; doesn’t it? Or a gaming console. We will find out on the 1st of November.

Nokia OZO Discontinued

Nokia Technologies has discontinued their OZO VR project, citing the slow development of the virtual reality market as being responsible for the decision.

Bye-bye Windows Phone

If you are among the ten people around the world still using a Windows Phone as their primary smartphone as their primary device, this looks like a good time to abandon ship. Microsoft’s top execs are jumping off and using Microsoft apps on Android and iOS. The company says you should jump ship too but that they will support you if you opt to ride it out. Read about it HERE.

That is all we have on this week’s news round up. Have a great weekend, mobilistas.
